Despite the forecast for the next week or so, the vernal equinox is in 5 days, and that means the official start of Spring. Longer days and warmer temperatures will turn our thoughts to daffodils, apple blossoms and the return of our farmers and vendors to Pawtuxet Village on May 6.

Traditionally, St. Patrick’s Day is pea-planting time. Tender shoots should be popping up in 6 weeks or so if you have planted outdoors. However, our farmers have been seeding onions, peas and other early veggies in their greenhouses, and come May, they will have those eagerly awaited greens for us to eat. Veggie and herb starts will be available for those of us who like to grow some of our own, too, all chemical-free and local as can be.
It’s official! Bolt Coffee Company will be bringing Knead Doughnuts to the market every Saturday. Sinfully delicious, they are a perfect accompaniment to Bolt’s locally roasted and fresh brewed coffees.
Meanwhile, keep visiting our vendors at the Pawtucket Wintertime Market, and tell them you’ll see them here May 6!
See you at a market.
