While the college basketball countdowns have ended, ours is just warming up: only four more Saturdays before our market opens on May 6th! Join us as we celebrate our 16th season and enjoy the fruits (okay, only veggies so far) of our farmers’ labors, wrested from our rocky Rhode Island soil. Your support every week makes the consistent delivery of local fish, meat, produce, and other food and farm items possible; for a small market such as ours, every purchase makes a big difference to our vendors. Please help them prosper and keep this service to our community a viable venture.
Mothers are on our minds this time of year. The biggest mother of them all, Mother Earth, gets a symbolic makeover every April on Earth Day. Community clean-ups and events abound. In our immediate area, there will be clean-ups at 2 locations:
Annual Stillhouse Cove Clean-up, April 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Rain date: April 23 at 11:30 a.m.)
Sponsored by the Edgewood Waterfront Preservation Association and Save the Bay. Partners include the Edgewood Garden Club, Johnson and Wales University, Pawtuxet Cove Marina, and Rhode Island Yacht Club.
Appropriate for all ages (including children with parental supervision).
The Friends of the Pawtuxet and the West Bay Land Trust will hold their annual clean-up the following weekend:
Saturday, April 29, 2017
9:30a – 12:00p
Pawtuxet River Trail
Meet at the RI DEM Pawtuxet Supply Depot
230 Warwick Ave., Cranston, 02905
And coming up in May: Mother’s Day! Consider a gift of plants or veggie and herb starts from the farmer’s market for your favorite Mom. Or buy some special foods and make her a fabulous meal. We also have gift certificates so she can have her own locavore shopping spree.
Finally, our new website has launched! Click and visit when you’re surfing the net. (Thanks go out to Vanessa Arnold and her Query Media company for her terrific work, and her patience with the tech-challenged content provider.)
See you at a market.
