Sunday is Father’s Day, and what better place to find some fresh, local goodies to honor the Dads in your life than the farmers market? Delicious regional cheeses, curated coffees, special cuts of pastured meats, fresh-caught seafood, hearty artisan breads, and an abundance of spring vegetables are just some of the comestibles you will find here. Does your Dad prefer to grow his own? Our farmers have a variety of veggie, herb and flower plant starts ready to pop into his garden, all locally and sustainably raised from seeds which, experience has shown, do best in our climate.
A couple of weeks ago, we announced the imminent arrival of OURgrain at the market; they are finally ready for us and will be at the market this Saturday. OURgrain is a new venture launched by recent Johnson and Wales graduates to promote the use of Brewers’ Spent Grain (BSG) as a nutritious and sustainable food source rather than waste. From their website: “OURgrain is changing flour forever with Brewers’ Spent Grain. OUR mission is to create sustainable consumables that have a significant impact on food waste while delivering quality and healthfulness to our consumers. OUR promise is to be a driving force for implementing sustainability and conscientiousness in food production to create a better future. ” Come check them out!
June IS busting out all over, especially evident with the colorful flowers for sale at our market. Commemorate Bloomsday June 16 by taking home some cut or potted blossoms. (Guaranteed to last at least as long as it takes to read Ulysses!)
Ja Patties (those yummy Jamaican filled-pasties) returns this week, as does The Honey Shop.
See you at the market.
