The solstice has passed, and the long hours of sunshine have kicked our farmers’ plants into high growing gear. It’s been an unpredictable season of cooler-than-normal temperatures and lots of cloudy and rainy days, which means that while some typical spring-harvested produce is still lingering (such as tender lettuces), the crops that need heat and sun have been slower to mature. This is part of the adventure of seasonal eating and shopping the farmers market; we don’t know for certain what will show up at the stalls, but there are always intriguing newcomers.
Matilda Empanadas returns from their brief hiatus, and will be with us every week for the rest of the season. Yum!
New vendors OURgrain and Ja Patty join us again, too, and this Saturday it’s time for Enjoyful Foods to make their biweekly appearance.
Friday, June 22, there will be a Firefly Walk at 8:45 PM (Postponed from June 15). Meet at the lower Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet parking lot for a half hour walk to see the firefly mating ritual. Bug repellent, long sleeves and long pants recommended. Please do not bring jars, nets, dogs or noisy electronics. Sponsored by the Friends of the Pawtuxet and the West Bay Land Trust.
See you at the market.
