It’s prime time for local produce: fall crops are coming in (winter squash, root vegetables, hearty greens and apples, to name a few) and summer varieties are still producing (tomatoes, corn, summer squash and peaches). There’s something for everyone at this time of year, and with cooler temperatures, it’s perfect weather to preserve some of the seasonal goodness by canning or freezing produce direct from the growers: Pak Express, Blue Skys Farm, gcFarms and Barden Family Orchard.
All our regular vendors continue to bring their delicious foods until the end of our market season October 27: meat from Weatherlow Farms, fish from the Local Catch, Bolt Coffee and Knead Doughnuts, fresh chicken and eggs from Baffoni’s Poultry, baked treats and granola from OURgrain, and hot prepared foods from Ja Patty and Matilda Emapanadas (who return this week). Every alternate week, there are cocoa mixes from Enjoyful Foods, and dips, dressings and honey/cider remedies from The Honey Shop. At our market tables, we have nuts and nut butters from Virginia and Spanish Peanut Company, honey from Fruit Hill Apiaries, cheese from the Edgewood Cheese Shop, bread from Olga’s Cup + Saucer, bagels from Krazy Korner Bakery, and gourmet pizza strips (regular red and vegan green) and sweet treats from Little Falls Cafe.
Joining us this week are the Cub Scouts of Gaspee Pack 4; they are selling gourmet popcorn (in a range of flavors) to support their programs.
