PIE TIME PERFECTION; COVE(RT) ACTION; POWER PLANT PANEL

Apples and pumpkins and squash, oh my!  It's the season to roll up your sleeves, roll out some crust, and roll yourself to the table for flavor-filled pies made with fresh local produce.  Anyway you slice it, a homemade pastry just cannot be beat. The volunteer guardians of Stillhouse Cove, the Edgewood Waterfront Preservation Association, will hold their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 PM, at the William Hall Library, 1825 … [Read more...]

GARDEN CLUB GOODIES; AUTUMN ABUNDANCE CONTINUES THROUGH OCTOBER 27!

It's time for the Edgewood Garden Club's Annual Plant and Bake Sale;  they will have lots of plants grown and potted by their members for sale, and baked goods, too.  Funds raised go to support their many community projects, which include maintaining the plantings at the Hall Library, the Village Playground and Stillhouse Cove.  They will also be collecting your gently used plastic pots and plant trays, which will be re-used by their members and … [Read more...]

HERBALICIOUS; JESS COOKS AGAIN!

Blue Skys Farm shared this picture of their beautiful crop of lemongrass.  This fragrant plant is a staple of Asian cuisine, and is one of the many culinary herbs offered by Sanctuary Herbs, farmer Christina's venture which gathers products from her own farm and from other local growers (including our own Chang Xiong of Pak Express). There will be another food demonstration this Saturday.   Jess of Little Falls Cafe will prepare a quick, … [Read more...]

BEE REAL, FOR SURE; MAKE IT SNAP-PY; ENJOY(FUL) SOME CHOCOLATE

Due to the intense heat on the original date scheduled, our annual bee visit was postponed until a healthier temperature range was predicted.  Thankfully, this Saturday seems to fill the bill: after the horrendous heat and humidity of the last few days, the forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions, with a high of around 80 degrees and lower humidity.  Cross your fingers that the hive will arrive this week! "Beekeeper and market table honey … [Read more...]

It's Food Demo time!  With so many impressive tomatoes and fragrant bunches of basil beckoning, our own favorite foodmonger decided to feature caprese sandwiches for our first how-to of the season.  From 10 AM on (or until she runs out of cheese), visit Jess at the market bread and baked goods table and sample her tomato, basil and fresh Narragansett Creamery mozzarella caprese creations.
